On To The Next One...

Now that the rug is in the mail (yeeeeaaahhh!) I am on to the next project...

...my art area.

Its in shambles and doesn't resemble a place to do art at all. Ive been pricing shelves and figuring out how to store my brushes, paints, collage papers, and tools in an organized way. My roommate was nice enough to give me a little room for my things, but the corner is in the living room so it has to flow with the decor I'm going with, but function for me to sit and do art.

Once the rug comes in and I get an idea of what I want the final outcome of the room to look like I will have an idea of how to make a place of work flow with the comforts of a living room.

Outfit Inspiration

Here are 2 outfits I wore this week that were inspired by my inspiration board (seen here).

First outfit is a blouse from New York & Company that I paired with H&M skinny jeans and Aerosoles riding boots. This outfit will quickly become a staple for me because its so simple and easy to throw together. For the warm winter months a faux fur vest or chunky sweater can be thrown overtop which is just as easy as the rest of the outfit.

I wore it with gold hoops, to play up the buttons down the front.

The detail on the blouse is what I was really drawn to when purchasing it. It has brassy metal buttons that are heavy enough to pull the whole top of the blouse to the ground, but when looped through the button holes they add a touch to a inexpensive shirt that you don't find everywhere.

The 2nd outfit is one that took me a little more time to put together but I loved by the end. Sometimes you just have to play around in your closet and come up with outfits you hadn't thought of originally (esp. if you are bored with seeing everything in your closet like I am).

This outfit works well because its all in the brown family but different shades and details are found everywhere that make it eye catching and playful. I wore and H&M sweater, an Anthropology skirt and belt, Spanx brown tights, and Aerosoles riding boots. The sweater has a broken ruffle detail around the neck and shoulders with a v-neck to add some length to my neckline. The skirt has a silk with button trim around the hem, this is just a fun detail to keep the eye interested. The brown belt and boots matched perfectly and the tights provided a streamline effect.

So far so good with my inspiration board, next up is trying to perfect the makeup and hair which are two of my worst areas.

Wish me luck!

Whatcha' feel?

This is the rug I think I am going to buy for my living room. I love everything about it, its dark like I wanted but with pops of bright colors and its fun to look at.

Have you ever bought something from Home Decorators?

Inspiration board in Progress!

So here are a few pictures of my inspiration board as it is now. I focused on clothes and clothing options (as I said in this past blog) that would make my life easier when going to my closet and not knowing what to put on.

I post everything: hair styles I like, makeup I want to recreate,  dresses I want to make, and to styling of outfits I like.

I guess it also makes me want to shop...oops.

Inspiration Board = Making Life Easier?

I am a constant collector of paper. I see a magazine, I buy it, I tag the pages I like or find informative and once I am done reading the magazine I rip away! I rip out everything from recipes to how to clean your bathroom in 20 minutes. I do keep all the paper well organized though, with 1 binder separated into sections. I have one section for recipes categorized by breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, and deserts, another section for good ideas for presents, a housewares section,  and another for a possible wedding one day (yikes!).

Because fashion is always on my mind I am always ripping out magazine pictures of clothes I like or how an outfit was put together that I find interesting.  For these images I have a folder for the days when I don't know what to wear and get lost in my own closet. The folder wasn't really working for me anymore and I have been trying to think of other ways to see these pictures as inspiration for putting together a great outfit outside of how I already style my clothes, wanting to change it up and mix things around!

Tomorrow I will post the work so far, but here are some images of boards I am mimicking in inspiration:

Warm Milk Soothes the Fashion Soul

The weather has completely dived face first into fall. I guess I cant expect any less for it only being 2 1/2 months till Christmas, but I wasn't really prepared even though this is my favorite time of the year.

I love everything from the cozy sweaters layered under leather jackets (here) to the fall boots (here). So while I am sitting in front of the TV,  reading a fashion magazine and ripping out all of the things I want, I have been sipping on this recipe (minus the blueberries and less of the sugar) keeping warm in my empty TV room.

Hope fall is treating you all well and you have a great weekend. Keep warm!

Swatching Time!

As I am getting my fall wardrobe together I mentioned in this post that I wanted to change the lining of this new blazer I bought. The lining that came with it was itchy and too bunchy, and I wanted to pick out a lining that was fun and colorful.

Yesterday during my dinner break I went to Mood Fabrics (You may have heard of them or seen them on Project Runway). Wow what a selection, almost too much to choose from.

Like I said, I wanted something fun and colorful but when I got there I realized I hadn't decided on a colour. After swatching these pieces I played with the colors on my wrist since some of the lining will be shown there.

I'm still trying to decide, ah decisions decisions!

Día de los Muertos

Last night I wanted to decorate my place for the fall. I had ideas of fake mice running across my table and a black feather wreath circling my front door but of course all of these ideas were made at 9pm last night when nothing was open.

I was trying to conjure up ideas when I remembered being in Mexico for Day of the Dead.  I am not totally sure if Day of the Dead is completely celebrated like Halloween because when I was in Mexico I was approached by little kids in costume for candy, but I do know that The Day of  the Dead is celebrated with family and friends to celebrate the family and friends who have passed away. Candy skulls, marigolds, private alters,  favorite food and beverages are offered to the heavens and placed at grave sites.

Here are some images I took of when I was in Mexico for the Day of the Dead.

(Cute little boy in the market asking people for candy)

(Sacrifices for Diego Rivera, the artist, at his studio)

Because I could not shop for anything I decided to get out my paper and paints and make my own Day of the Dead sculls and hang them up around my apartment.

Here was my process:

Happy Fall everyone!

Food Product Review: Garden Lites Butternut Squash Souffle

I was walking through the freezer section at Whole Foods and came across this product from Garden Lites. I have never tried any other products from Garden Lites, but I love sweet potato anything and have been looking for healthy snacks that are nutritious and give me part of  my daily vegetable as well as filling me until I eat my next meal.

Garden Lites Butternut Squash Souffle says its only 180 calories with the salt intake being 45mg, sugar being 14g, and the fiber being 2g.  On Weight Watchers its 3 points.

The top became hard after baking it in the oven, but the inside was delicious and very light.

I don't know if I would eat  it again for a snack because 3 points out of how many calories I can eat a day is a lot to use up, but if I decide I need something filling though I'm not starving then I would totally grab for a Garden Lite souffle again.

Full Skirt Circle

I had to post this picture from another blog I just found and fell in love with, Sea of Shoes. There are so many things I love about this picture and outfit. The fact that she is wearing a full skirt (a trend I have been dying over), Chanel peep toe boots (no words), and a cute little crop sweater from Zara (fun!).

I could NEVER in my life get away with this outfit because I don't own ANYTHING Chanel, and I don't have the body for a crop sweater, but I can do a full skirt and here are some of my favorites. And you know how I roll.....inexpensive. Period.

Minty Lemonade REMIX!

So I was in the East Village for a haircut and I walked into a restaurant that had Mint Lemonade just like the post I made here! The only difference with theirs is that they blend it all together with honey added in. He used a fair amount, maybe over 2 TBSP but it was delicious and a total treat on a day off :)

Fun Sushi in NJ!

I was in need of some sushi to kill a craving

If you don't know about East Japanese Restaurant then you need to.
They have carousel sushi! How could you not love that?

Every time I go its packed, but the wait is never long and I always get a seat right up front where all the action is!

The prices are cheap, but the fish is very fresh and the service is wonderful too. Depending on what sushi you pick, the plate it comes on tells you how much it costs.

They provide you with a menu if you want to order a special roll you don't see or any hot foods you want. This is the sweet potato tempura roll I am obsessed with.

I always end my meal with a scoop of green tea ice cream!

With 2 pink plates, 1 checkered, 1 green, 1 tempura roll, and the green tea ice cream
my total came to $16.05

(p.s) I think they also have NY locations, though they don't have their own website

Table Tops of Love

I received a beautiful antique round table from my Mother and Father when I moved into my apartment. Because the table means so much to me I wanted to protect it from any nicks and scratches so i have been looking for the perfect table cloth that isn't dull or your typical purchase.

I found this cloth at Anthropology in the sale section and instantly fell in love

(yes I have mismatched chairs and mismatched bookcases...more on that later haha)

This cloth is anything but dull and the detail of the tassels hanging down just makes me love it more.

If you cant tell by now I am not afraid of color, but because my dining room was so bare the table cloth is just the right start to make this room fill with warmth.

NY Times: Savory Cheddar Biscotti

My mom sent me this recipe from the NY Times website. I had to give it a shot since I love biscotti and I LOVE cheese
