Clogs = Higher to the Sky

Lately all I have wanted was a fun clog. A fun clog with a strap to wrap around my ankle so I don't trip and break my foot. A fun clog with a strap that's easy to wear with my wide leg jeans. A fun clog that's easy to wear with my wide leg jean at work.

Pretty Nails Are Calling Your Name!

My friend has been texting me pictures of her pretty finger nails and telling me I have to go try OPI's gel nail polish. We both work with costumes and every other Saturday between shows we would go on our lunch break and  get a manicure together. Manicures for us usually don't last long with all the zippers we pull up and down, the snaps we open and close, and the hooks and bars we attach throughout the show. We are lucky if we get 2 days without a chip, so when she explained that gel nail polish lasts her 2-3 weeks and doesn't require maintenance to maintain a fresh paint job every day, I was determined to try!

Off to the salon I went to get my first OPI Axxium Gel Lacquer and for $30.00 I am very happy. I picked Big Apple Red and so far it hasn't chipped for a week and is still glossy as the day I got it done.

Have you tried gel nail polish and what do you think?

P.S. In the pictures I am wearing my friend Laura's jewelry (ring and bracelet), her jewelry is beautiful and affordable. Please check out her website at: www.Broadwaybaubles.com or www.Backstagebaubles.com

Product Review: PSSSSST Instant Dry Shampoo

Before

You are looking a day old hair here, freshly washed and blown out  yesterday. I don't know what happens when I sleep, but my hair seems to be in the oddest shape when I wake up. Today my bangs were on the opposite side of my head and the bun I wear to sleep in had fallen out.

As a gift during Christmas I received this bottle of  PSSSSST Instant Dry Shampoo. I kept meaning to give it a try on day old hair, so today was the day. As you can see from my before picture I had some body, but I needed to style the hair in some kind of way that was acceptable for people to look at me

While following the directions and spraying the PSSSSST shampoo in my hair I was actually kind of blown away with the smell. It was a mix of vanilla, baby powder, and hair spray, all in all not too bad of a scent. It went on really easy and when I waited for it to set I noticed it actually had tamed my fly aways that always happen around my ears. I brushed my hair and then blew some pieces with a round brush and Voila! day old shampooed hair!

Sock U Out!

Have you heard of Muji? Well its a home and clothing design store with simplicity as its main objective. Everything in the store is has a Japanese feel with being very streamlined by taking all the fuss out of every day objects and making them for their basic function (no crazy patterns or fluff). I was browsing through the Time Square store and picked up a set of their reused yarn socks. They are perfect for wearing with boots in the winter because they are tall enough to stay tucked in to our skinny jeans, but they also keep the foot warm without overheating while we run through the city. Also, the colors are really fun and every pack comes with 5 pairs so there are many colors to choose from.

LV window display

Window display at the Louis Vuitton store, 5th Ave. and 57th St., NYC

I went for a walking/subway tour of NYC yesterday with some friends. It was great because I never really get to see Manhattan except for the 4-5 block radius of Times Square that I stay in while I am at work. We went everywhere, Midtown to Soho, Chinatown, the Lower east side, back up to the Upper east side, a walk along Central Park and into the high fashion (closed) stores on 5th Ave. As we were admiring the windows of Louis Vuitton my friend noticed that all of the bags and accessories in the window were made into animals. I thought this was so pretty and really fun so I took some pictures to show you all what a little imagination can do.

Enjoy!

Shopping for a Bridal Shower Dress

A friend of mine asked me for my advice in finding a shower dress, I figured this would be a great chance to help a lot of the new fiances out there. Since my friends wedding shower is this month I found some dress ideas that would easily be found at the nearest mall. I did my best to find dresses under $300, remembering this is a special moment but understanding a budget especially during this time.

So, here goes:

I like this dress from BCBG because it appropriate enough for grandparents, the weather outside, and shows a slim torso. The cowl neck will look nice in pictures with a nice silver drop down earring. I would pair it with a belt and a cute pair of navy or gray suede pumps. This dress can definitely be worn after all of the wedding festivities in many different ways, it would look cute with a nice pair of boots or wedges.

BCBG, $ 280.00

What other time do you have the chance to wear a red dress? For your shower you want to stand out and glow, everyone is there for you, revel in it! This dress from BB Dakota is the perfect amount of sexy but demure, it isn't showing too much skin but its flirty with the full skirt. I would pair the dress with a silver sparkly shoe, something fun that will play up the dress. This also could be a great rehearsal dress.

BB Dakota, $109.00

This dress paired with a sparkly necklace, black tights, and a heel will look great on a bride to be. It really shows a womanly figure and is so versatile with the color and shape to be worn to a friends wedding later. A nice shawl or sweet little jacket could be brought in to keep you warm. Also, this dress worn with your hair down will look really great in pictures.

J Crew, $160.00

This dress is special because it combines many great elements. It sparkles, its strapless so your hair down will look great in pictures, plus it has a really cute flower detail that will add a little pop to the pictures taken of portrait style. Pair it with a diamond sparkler earring and a simple black pump.

Maggy London, $138.00

Needing of Advice: Scaredy Cat Shopping

I am a closet scaredy cat of shopping. Yes I love to buy myself a new piece of clothing but lately I haven't been able to buy myself anything but groceries and pay my bills. Once I buy something for myself I feel guilty and usually return the items because I think I could have used my money in better ways ie: credit bill. But new tires on my car wont excite me like a new pair of shoes would. When I am actually out I am afraid to try different clothing looks and update my clothing options mainly because I'm on a limited budget and also when I buy the trendy fur vest I know I wont really get the use out of it that I should because my lifestyle doesn't call for it.
Trendy fur vest that I was too scared to buy and is now no longer available.

Dress that I recently fell in love with, but probably wont buy because I think I'm too short to wear it.

A look I have been wanting to try but afraid my gymnastic thighs wont look right in tights with shorts over top

I think one of the main problems with me shopping is that I don't have a style that I stick to. I jump from bohemian, to classic, to fun, to super relaxed so that makes my closet not easy to grab and go when looking for an outfit. I seem to have a majority of the basics, but nothing fun to put them with.

How does one get over the hump of buying something for themselves when other bills are due, doggy babysitters need to be paid, the car needs to run properly, or/and groceries are needed for the next baking experiment? How does one find a happy balance with buying for themselves?

If you have any advice please let me know!

Sweatshirt Day

I seem to have caught a nasty cough and a little bit of a cold so getting dressed for work today was all about comfort. I recently bought this flannel lined sweatshirt from Forever 21 for days just like this, where going to work would not be looked at well if I were in my pajamas but I can (or in a few select professions) get away with a sweatshirt with fake perals gradiating down.

Leftovers Galore

One of the oranges I meant to use for dinner on Xmas Day.
Christmas and New Years are now a thing of the past but when you open my fridge you wouldn't think so. My family is known for a stocked fridge with nothing really to eat and that's exactly what I was left with when they all went home, tons of different kinds of cheese, mixed berries, a half eaten baguette, and many other food items that are not really good for a complete meal.

Leftover salmon, too good for so many reasons to put to waste.

I decided to use what was left in my fridge to make some kind of respectable meal last night and for meals to come this week while at work. What I came up with for lunch was a red lentil soup from Food & Wine magazine using leftover garlic and smoked salmon leftovers on fresh pumpernickel bread for a side. For dinner, with the leftover oranges I made the chicken recipe I have used before with a side of rice pilaf.

Left over garlic used in the soup

Lunch
The lentil soup with carrots, potato, celery, vegetable broth, cumin, cayenne pepper,  and lemon juice

Ready for lunch tomorrow; grab and go is the new name of the game

Pumpernickel bread soon to be spread lightly with a whipped cream cheese

Capers and a lemon wedge add to the flavor of the salmon

So flavorful and filled with so many needed vitamins and protein

Dinner
My orange chicken recipe with tamarind

Tamarind, brown sugar and orange peel combined with other ingredients makes for a beautiful tasting chicken thigh

Lunch and dinner should be easy now with just my veggies to make and warm up.
